Team Lab
The mission of the Team Lab is to study team effectiveness and psychological processes in complex and stressful environments, and to improve individual and team performance in organizations. The Team Lab is housed in the DBL.
Dr. Aleks Ellis of the Department of Management and Organizations is the director of the Team Lab.
The Team Lab uses the Dynamic Distributed Decision-making (DDD) simulation which models a military command and control context, where participants control various vehicles, such as attack helicopters, fighter jets, tanks, and radar planes. The object of the task is to protect restricted areas and prevent enemy vehicles from entering forbidden locations them by detecting, identifying, and attacking them. Students work in four person teams and must communicate effectively and coordinate their individual efforts to be successful as a team.
Current research in the lab involves examining the effects of various forms of training on team performance over time.
